Hello? « Thread Started on Jan 12, 2008, 4:10pm »
A clear day on the mountains. Rare, but beautiful. The clouds had floated off to rest above other lands. It was chilly, but not unbearbly so, as the sun warmed the air slightly. It was beautiful, but could also be deadly. The animals that lived on these snowy slopes were wise to the dangers the clear sky brought, and were staying in the rocky areas, rather than the snowy ones.
All but one.
Along a ridge of snow, a bit lower on the mountains than the rockline, a speck of black among blinding white moved rapidly between the few tress, rocks, and snow drifts. If one were to move closer, they would find a wolf with a coat the color of coal, undertoned in brown. Her eyes were a pale yellow, her body sitting on slighty short legs, making it look as if she glided through the snow. Her tail waved happily in the air as she trotted along, at times hopping much like the rabbits she had been feeding on as she steeped into a deeper patch of snow.
Amaya wasn't stupid, she knew the risk she took by walking on the snows. An avalanche could easily start and take her under, leaving her to get crushed or suffocate under the snow's weight. With this thought in mind, she made her way quickly to higher territory, where the steeper slopes would give her relative safety among the rocks. Picking her way among the larger of the rocks until she came to a ledge, she looked out on the mountains, gazing on the other territories far beyond. It was a magnificent sight. 'What a wonderful home this would make...' she thought. And with that thought came a realization, Did anyone live here? She hadn't seen any signs of other wolves, but that didn't mean they weren't there. She'd hidded herself well enough from prey, dispide her white coat, didn't she?
Deciding the best course of action was to seek out the resident pack, if there was one, and try to make peace. Perhaps, if some pack lived here, she could join them. If not, maybe she would claim the lands as her own. With that decision, she somewhat reluctantly left the ledge and its gran view behind and continued on her journey. After a short time of traveling, she came upon a high mounain valley. The ground was flat, and the mountains raised high above it, sheltering it from the worst of the snow. From the looks of it, the small valley was also avalanche free. As Amaya studied it from afar, she decided if there was a pack in the area, this would be the most likly place to find them.
Picking her way down a slope, she reached the valley safely with the help of a few goat-trails. Once in the valley it became apparant no wolf pack lived in the area. Mountain goats had been in the area recently, as well as a possible snow leopard. Snow leopards were dangerous, but the signs were old. Making her way towards an outcropping of rock she found a cave opening. Sniffing cautiously, she crept closer. She couldn't see far inside, and didn't smell anything, but that was no reason to just go barging into an unknown cave.
She sat and listened a moment. Nothing. She gave the air another good sniff. Still nothing. "Hello?" she called out, hearing her voice echo back at her. She waved her tail softly, hoping that if anyone, or anything, was inside, it would find her harmless and not attack.
(Sorry for not responding sooner. Homework takes it's toll. D:)
A voice rang out over the mountains, or so it seemed, though it was only heard by Amaya. "Amaya, Your paw-steps follow those of destiny. You are chosen to be Alpha here. Do you except this path?"The clouds began to descend, almost rapidly, encircling Amaya, drops of water, almost frozen, clung to the tips of her pelt.

[[Totally understandable. I'm in the middle of Mid-terms. Thankfully tomorrow is thy last day of them X.x]]
Amaya's ears flicked about a few more times before deciding the cave would be safe to enter. She stood, still cautious and nearly jumped out of her fur as the voice seemed to ring across the entire mountain range. Did it just adress her? Attempting to calm her now racing heart, the dark-furred she-wolf sat down again and took a deep breath. The disembodied voice had just asked her a question.
Destiny? she thought, So theres not a pack here... Am I to start one? Realising that the clouds that had recently been so far away were suddely seeming to envelop her, she realised that she hadn't been hearing things, and that the voice seemed to be expecting an answer. Well, I came here looking for acceptance, but this is more that I bargained for. she though before evaluating what resposibilites would come with the title.
Making her decision, she held herself a little taller before answering with confidence. "I will accept this destiny, Great Voice." she said, with respect in her voice. "May I ask why I was chosen, or is that something I will find out on my own?" Her pale eyes glanced around, hoping to perhaps catch a glimpse of anything that may lurk in the fog. Deciding that the fog wasn't menacing she shook her now wet coat, only to have more water settle on it.
The cloud seemed to swirl tighter, as the voice rang out,"So be it. Amaya Coalmist" It seemed a wolf took form from the clouds, it'smuzzle brushing Amaya's as it faded away. The clouds weer gone, though a wisp still hung around a.... Pawprint?
